The Meanings and Reasons for the Crest components
Elements of the Household Crest
Household Motto
The House Motto (Honor, Loyalty, Service and Duty)
is translated into Chinese symbols and placed in the 4 corners. Each
word of the House Motto is placed a corner in order to remind us of
their importance in our daily lives and training. The words are in
Chinese out of respect to my Chinese heritage and training from my
Sensei.
Ying/Yang Symbol
The ying/yang symbol is part of the crest to
represent the duality of our lives. We walk in a "vanilla" life and
"bdsm" life. They are two separate lives each demanding our time and
consideration. Yet each are apart of our core being and existence. We
are incomplete without either one of them. By applying our Household
Motto in our daily lives, we can flow from one life into the other with
minimal disruption in our lives.
The symbol is cracked signifying the
boundaries between the dualities is not static or stable. Both sides
flow into the other. The bdsm flows into the vanilla to make kinky
vanilla. The vanilla flows into the bdsm to make Safe Sane Consensual
(SSC) and Risk Aware Consensual Kink (RACK) scenes.
Dragon/Tiger
The Dragon and Tiger were chosen because of their
natures and meaning. The Dragon flows in and out of the symbol and the Tiger stands
ready on top of it.
The Dragon's digging energizes both sides thereby
preventing each side from becoming "static" or "hide bound" in its ways.
The Dragon pushes us to be our best at all times. The Dragon also tells
us to give back what we have learned/ know and to help others.
The Tiger
stands ready to defend our household and its members from those who seek
us harm or ill fortune. The tiger also gives us the strength and courage
to press forward when no one will stand beside us.
Both are darkened
because it is from our "negative side" that we draw strength from. We
transmute our "inner darkness" into constructive/positive life-giving
experiences.
"When Dragon and Tiger are separated, they become temperament and
emotion, resulting in injury. When they are joined they are true essence
and true sense, enhancing life. The meeting of dragon and tiger is
seeking sense through essence and returning sense to essence, meaning
that essence and sense unite." (Taoist Teaching)
Background (Grey/white)
The background is Grey-white because we walk in the
shadows of life. We walk where others do not wish to. We aspire to
explore/experience/learn our inner natures/desires without the
limitations of guilt or public consensus. We are aware of our
limitations and darker natures but we aspire to be better.
Border (green)
The border is green to represent growth and change.
We aspire to learn more than we know. We aspire to help others who need
help. We aspire to be little better each day.
